Action: Redesigning a Legacy Dashboard for Power Users

Overview

At Recruitics, I led the redesign of the internal recruitment advertising campaign management platform, a critical tool used by internal teams to manage and optimize recruitment campaigns. This internal-facing dashboard was envisioned to cater specifically to the needs of power users within the performance marketing teams. The existing platform was outdated in both aesthetics and functionality, with inefficient navigation, excessive wasted space, and redundant elements that hindered user efficiency. The goal was to enhance user experience through improved visual hierarchy, intuitive navigation, and a modern aesthetic that aligns with current design trends.

The Problem

The internal platform had several usability challenges:

  • Outdated UI: The interface felt cluttered and visually outdated, making it harder for users to focus on key tasks.

  • Inefficient Navigation: The left-hand navigation bar was overly long, often redundant, and difficult to navigate quickly.

  • Wasted Space: Poor use of screen real estate led to unnecessary scrolling and inefficiencies in daily workflows.

These issues resulted in a frustrating user experience, slowing down internal teams and reducing productivity.

The Challenge

Action's existing dashboard homepage posed several usability challenges, hindering the efficiency and effectiveness of performance analysts. The need for a redesign stemmed from the desire to enhance data visualization, streamline navigation, and optimize workflow management.

Objective

The goal was to modernize the platform by improving its usability, enhancing navigation, and creating a cleaner, more efficient UI that allows teams to manage recruitment campaigns with greater ease and speed.

My Approach

User Research & Feedback

  • Conducted internal user interviews to understand pain points and workflow challenges.

  • Analyzed heatmaps and usage data to identify areas of inefficiency.

    UI & Navigation Redesign

  • Simplified the left-hand navigation, reducing redundancies and grouping related features.

  • Implemented a cleaner, more modern visual design to improve readability and usability.

  • Optimized layout and spacing to make better use of screen real estate, reducing scrolling and improving workflow efficiency.

    Prototyping & Testing

  • Created interactive prototypes to test new navigation structures and layout improvements.

  • Gathered feedback from internal users and iterated on the design based on real-world use cases.

Results & Impact

  • 50% Reduction in Navigation Time – The streamlined navigation made it significantly faster for users to find what they needed.

  • Increased User Satisfaction – Internal teams reported a more intuitive experience, reducing frustration with redundant workflows.

  • Improved Visual Hierarchy – The modernized UI made key information more accessible and actionable.

The redesigned dashboard was meticulously crafted to meet the sophisticated requirements of performance analysts within Action’s performance marketing teams. These power users demanded a tool that not only simplified their daily tasks but also empowered them to make data-driven decisions swiftly and confidently.

The Outcome

Although the redesigned dashboard for Action never reached implementation, its conceptualization aimed to set a new standard for internal-facing tools within the company. By aligning closely with usability and navigation needs along with business objectives, this project sought to pave the way for enhanced efficiency, informed decision-making, and superior campaign performance management.
